The May Pavilion
in Miami is a “Great-Home” where elderly residents
can participate in a variety of unique events.
This pavilion is designed to evoke invitation,
community, dignity and celebration of the South Florida climate.
The May Pavilion is composed of a series of
spaces of singular quality. The library has drawing room
doors, the reception has a clerestory-lit parlor and café,
and the salon area is designed for musical performances and exhibitions.
To integrate the building design with Florida’s
style and climate, the exterior walls are constructed with glazed
blue terra cotta, and the pale coral stucco walls feature deeply
punched window openings.
Celebrating the outdoors,
the Pavilion has verandas and trellises that mark the residents’ path
to the overlook and waterfall.
