Bruyette Athenaeum
is located on the seventy year-old Saint Joseph College for women
in West Hartford. Bruyette has a new theatre, bistro, art museum,
and art and music classrooms. The building features a gallery
of the college’s history as well as the college archive.
The auditorium/theatre lobby also serves as
an entrance to the college’s art museum. The second
floor includes a tiered classroom for lectures.
The theatre space was designed to shorten the
site lines to the last row of seats, thereby adding intimacy to
its 400 seats.
The site plan for Lynch
Hall, Bruyette Athenaeum, and the existing library, complete
the 1932 quadrangle plan designed by the Olmsted Brothers. The
lawns and patios in front of Bruyette can successfully accommodate
outdoor performances.
